Week #170 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (22/01/2026)
The penultimate Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of January was another packed night, with 18 teams taking part, including our newest recruits “Scrambled Heads” and “Agatha Quiz-Tee”.
Round One – ‘Starter For Ten’
In Round One, “Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot” got off to a perfect start, scoring 10/10 in the ‘Starter for Ten’ round. Although this also earned them 2 Bonus Points, it was “Universally Challenged” who won the round on 16 points, thanks to their Joker Card.
Round Two – ‘Word Puzzle Round’
The Word Puzzle Round was new round called ‘Blankety Blank’, where the team had to guess the missing word from the well-known phrase. This week, the missing words were all numbers, and this led to some really high scoring – THIRTEEN of the teams getting full marks to bag two extra Bonus Points. SEVEN of those had played their Jokers, so a high-scoring round for many of our teams!
Round Three – ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’
In the ‘Multiple Choice’ round, “Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot” again top-scored, with 18 points, having played their Joker card.
Round Four – ‘Picture Round’
The Picture Round was a real head-scratcher this week. Our teams were tasked with guessing 10 European countries from their silhouettes. But they were also given 10 names, and had to match them to said silhouettes. “Quiztopher Walken” excelled, getting all 10 right, earning 2 Bonus Points, but “One For Yersel'” had played their Joker and scored 18 points.
Round Five – ‘Themed Round’
With it being Burns Night on Sunday, the ‘Themed Round’ was all about the National Bard, Robert Burns.
“Seal Pointers” and “Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot” were our joint-top scorers in this round with seven points apiece.
Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout Round’
The Snowball Jackpot had reached its limit last week, and so the £100 had been donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Jackpot was now reset at £10, but with NINE of the teams failing to score any points, it was “Dunderheids” who top-scored on 7 points.
Round Seven – ”Guess Who?’ Round’
In the final ‘Guess Who?’ round, “Simple Minds” were the ONLY team to correctly guess that British actor and producer Stephen Graham was our mystery celebrity on the first clue, giving them 20 points AND the £20 cash prize for the round!
Our top three teams were separated by just 4 points, in another extremely competitive quiz.
The winning team this week were “Dunderheids”, with a score of 75 points, see them claim the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card.
We look forward to seeing you at The Compass this Thursday from 8pm
