Week #172 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (05/02/2026)

The first Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of February was another really busy night, with 19 teams attending.

Round One – ‘Starter For Ten’

The first round was pretty high-scoring, despite no Joker cards being played.  “Agatha Quiz-Tee”, “Dunderheids”, “Mirren’s Team” and “The Bridies” all started off with 10/10 to gain 2 Bonus Points as well.

Round Two – ‘Word Puzzle Round’

For the Word Puzzle Round, the teams were given the names of ten musical acts, all of which contained a persons name, which had been blanked out – their job was to work out that missing name.

“Agatha Quiz-Tee” continued their perfect start, this time with their Joker, to score 22 points including 2 more Bonus Points.

“Quiztopher Walken” also scored 20/20 (plus 2 Bonus Points) and “Dunderheids” scored their own ‘perfect 10’ to get two more Bonus Points of their own.

Round Three – ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’

The ‘Multiple Choice’ round saw a number of high scores, this week, with no fewer than 10 teams getting 9 answers correct (including “The Wotsits” who had played their Joker card).

“The Clan” scored full marks, to get their first 2 Bonus Points of the evening, but it was “Caledonian MacBrains” who were top of the pile with 20/20 thanks to their Joker, giving them 2 Bonus Points as well.

Round Four – ‘Picture Round’

Our Picture Round was based on movies – iconic movie posters, with the titles redacted.

As is often the case, the last of the Jokers had been saved for this round, and “Dunderheids” and “Tequila Mockingbird” took full advantage, getting all ten correct for a maximum score of 22 points each.

“The Bridies”, “The Clan” and “The Stoaters” all scored 10/10 to claim 2 Bonus Points.

Round Five – ‘Themed Round’

The Themed Round focused on ‘The Winter Olympics’, which started this week in Italy.

Not such a high-scoring round this time, and no teams managing full marks.

Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout Round’

The Snowball Jackpot now stood at £30, and with some teams really going for it, there were a few casualties again.

FOURTEEN of the teams scoring zero points!

So the Snowball Jackpot now stands at £40 as we head into the second week of February

Round Seven – ”Guess Who?’ Round’

In the final ‘Guess Who?’ round, “Our Drinking Team Has A Quiz Problem” and “Craig & Mike” both guessed Stephen Fry as the mystery celebrity on the very first clue.

“Drinking Team”, compromised wholly of members of the amazing staff team from The Compass, were pulled out in the draw to win the £20 cash prize, which they very generously donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

It was another hard-fought Quiz, with our top seven teams separated by only 10 points.

In fact, it needed a tie-break question to separate “The Bridies” and “The Clan” for first place.

“The Clan” were the winners in the end to see them win this weeks £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card.
We look forward to seeing you at The Compass this Thursday from 8pm.
