Week #176 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (05/03/2026)

The first Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of March was a really busy night, with nearly 70 quizzers taking part. We had 18 teams in this week, including new recruits “Blades of Glory”.

Round One – ‘Starter For Ten’

In Round One, “Seal Pointers” got off the best start, having played their Joker. A score of 16 points saw them take top spot at the end of the ‘Starter for Ten’ round.

Round Two – ‘Word Puzzle Round’

The Word Puzzle Round was ‘Blockbusters’, where the teams were given 10 clues, and the first letter of the correct answer.

“Dunderheids” got all ten answers correct to win 2 Bonus Points, but “Caledonian MacBrains” matched them, but had played their Joker card to score the maximum 22 points (including Bonus Points).

Round Three – ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’

In round 3 – the ‘Multiple Choice’ round – none of the teams chose to play their Jokers.

And so, “Agatha Quiz-tee”,”Tequila Mockingbird”, “Universally Challenged” and “Blades of Glory” all scored 9/10 to share the lead of this round.

Round Four – ‘Picture Round’

The Picture Round this week was called ‘Name the Brand’. Our teams were provided with ten well-known brand logos and tasked with correctly guessing their names.

Although there were six Jokers played, none of the teams really capitalised, with 12 being the join-top score in the round.

Round Five – ‘Themed Round’

For round 5, it was another Music Round – this week, the topic was ‘TV Theme Tunes of the 1970s’.

“2FA” and “My Favourite Team” both managed to score 10/10 to claim 2 Bonus Points each. However, “Blades of Glory” outscored everyone, getting full marks with their Joker to score 22 points!

Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout Round’

The Snowball Jackpot had now increased to £30 for this weeks ‘Total Wipeout’ round.

Despite only 3 of the teams failing to register any points in the round this week, there were still no winners.

So the Jackpot will now go up to £40 (wooo!) for the Quiz next week!

Round Seven – ”Guess Who?’ Round’

In the final ‘Guess Who?’ round, THREE teams guessed correctly on the second clue – our mystery celebrity this week was ‘Ted Lasso’ star, Hannah Waddingham.

“The Stoaters”, “The Wotsits” and “We’re Still Thinking” had all got the answer right at the same time – but it was “The Stoaters” who were drawn out to win the £20 cash prize this week!

It was another closely-fought Quiz this week, with a tie-break needed to separate “Universally Challenged” from “The Wotsits” for second place, both teams having scored 70 points.

Newcomers “Blades of Glory” secured their debut win, with a score of 75 points to see them get their first £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card.
