Week #178 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (19/03/2026)

The third Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of March saw another bumper turnout with 18 teams taking part.

Round One – ‘Starter For Ten’ Round

Despite none of the teams opting to play their Joker cards in Round One, “Agatha Quiz-tee”, “Tequila Mockingbird”, “The Bridies”, “The Clan”, “The Stoaters”, “The Wotsits”, “We’re Still Thinking” and “Willow & Co.” ALL scored 9/10 in the ‘Starter for Ten’ round to share the early lead.

Round Two – ‘Word Puzzle’ Round

The Word Puzzle Round this week was ‘Celebrity Dingbats’, where the teams were had to guess the ten celebrity names, using the word and picture clues that were provided.

There were no Jokers played again in this round, but “Craig & Mike”, “Dunderheids”, “Tequila Mockingbird”, “The Bridies” and “The Clan” ALL scored full marks to earn their first 2 Bonus Points of the evening.

Round Three – ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’ Round

This week, round 3 – the ‘Multiple Choice’ round was a really low-scoring round, with only two Jokers being played.

Our top-scorers for the round were “The Wotsits”, with 12 points, courtesy of their Joker.

Round Four – ‘Picture’ Round

Our Picture Round this week had a bit of an Oscars feel to it.

The teams were presented with 10 scenes from movies, all of which had won the ‘Best Picture’ Oscar. They simply had to name the movie.

This was a pretty high-scoring round with ELEVEN teams playing their Joker cards! “Craig & Mike”,”Dunderheids”, “Tequila Mockingbird” and “Willow & Co.” all scored 20/20 with their Jokers to get 2 Bonus Points as well!

Round Five – ‘Themed’ Round

For the Themed Round this week, it was a music round, with the teams having to name the ten Scottish female solo artists from the track extracts played.

Although “My Favourite Team” and “Tequila Mockingbird” both scored 10/10 (earning 2 Bonus Points each), “The Bridies” and “The Clan” both scored 20 points with their Jokers. So it was another 2 Bonus Points for each of them too!

Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout’ Round

The Snowball Jackpot had gone up to £50 for this weeks ‘Total Wipeout’ round.

Only 3 of our teams managed to register ANY points this week, with “The Clan” top-scoring on 4 points.

So no winners again this week, and the Snowball Jackpot goes up to SIXTY POUNDS as we head into the final week of the Quiz!

Round Seven – ‘Guess Who?’ Round

The final ‘Guess Who?’ round this week saw “Simple Minds” and “We’re Still Thinking” both correctly guess Scottish newscaster John Mackay as this weeks mystery celebrity.

And “We’re Still Thinking” were drawn out of the champagne bucket to win the £20 cash prize this week!

Despite the Quiz having been quite closely fought in the opening rounds, “The Clan” had only dropped 4 points in the first 5 rounds, but had also gained 4 Bonus Points.

Their total score of 80 points saw them crowned as the winners for this week, securing the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card. “The Bridies” were runners-up on 76 points, with “We’re Still Thinking” capitalising on their success in the ‘Guess Who?’ round to climb into third place overall.
