The third Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of April saw another bumper turnout with 19 teams and 71 quizzers taking part.

We welcomed our newest teams “Sofa King Smart” and “Pizza Lovers” along for their first Quiz.

Round One – ‘Starter For Ten’ Round

Our teams enjoyed a strong start in the ‘Starter for Ten’ round.

“The Bridies” got the first perfect score of the night to get 12 points, but “The Clan” and “The Wotsits” had both played their Jokers and shared the lead on 18 points.

Round Two – ‘Word Puzzle’ Round

In Round 2 this week, the Word Puzzle was to guess which language the English word “Hello” had been translated into.

Mirren’s team scored best here, with 7/10 doubled by their Joker card!

Round Three – ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’ Round

There were quite a number of Jokers played this week in round 3 – the ‘Multiple Choice’ round.

Our top-scorers for the round were “Seal Pointers”, with 18 points, courtesy of their Joker.

Round Four – ‘Picture’ Round

For our Picture Round this week, our teams were given pictures of 10 animals, with there being 5 sets of ‘Animal Lookalikes’ – animals that could easily be mistaken for another!

This prompted lots of Jokers to be played, and LOTS of high scores!

“Bonnie & Clyde”, “Quizzardry”, “Tequila Mockingbird” and “The Bridies” ALL scored 10/10 to earn 2 Bonus Points, but “Dunderheids” and newcomers “Sofa King Smart” tied for the round on 16 points with their Jokers.

Round Five – ‘Themed’ Round

For the Themed Round this week, it was another music round, with the teams asked to find a four-letter ‘F word’ from the titles of the songs being played to them.

“Tequila Mockingbird” and “The Bridies” shared the spoils in this round, with a Joker-boosted 18 points each.

Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout’ Round

The Snowball Jackpot had gone up to £90 for this weeks ‘Total Wipeout’ round.

Although 10 of our teams managed to score points this week (“Quizzardry” top-scoring with 8pts), again there were no winners, and so the Snowball Jackpot goes up to the maximum ONE HUNDRED POUNDS as we head into the fourth week of the Quiz for April!

Round Seven – ‘Guess Who?’ Round

The final ‘Guess Who?’ round this week saw EIGHT teams- -“Tequila Mockingbird”, “The Bridies”, “The Clan”, “The Giggle Gang”, “The Muppets”, “The Divas”, “Busty Crustaceans” and “Sofa King Smart” ALL correctly guess Irish actor Liam Neeson as this weeks mystery celebrity.

And “Sofa King Smart” were drawn out of the champagne bucket to win the £20 cash prize this week – their first week at the Quiz!

Only 6 points separated our top 4 teams this week, and with a total score of 77 points, it was “Tequila Mockingbird” who won this weeks £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card. “The Bridies” were runners-up on 76 points, with “The Clan” finishing in 3rd place on 73 points.
