Week #185 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (07/05/2026)

The first Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of May was a really busy night, with 22 teams in this week, including new recruits “Radium Isotopes” and “Quiz GPT”.

Round One – ‘Starter For Ten’

In Round One, “Caledonian MacBrains” got off to the perfect start, having played their Joker card, and getting a perfect score to give them 22 points.

Round Two – ‘Word Puzzle Round’

The Word Puzzle Round topic this week was ‘Inconsonants – UK Prime Ministers’. The teams had to work out the names of 10 UK Prime Ministers from the clues, where all of the consonants had been removed.

This was an incredibly high-scoring round, with NINE teams scoring 10/10, and FIVE teams scoring 20 points thanks to their Joker – ALL of these teams added 2 Bonus Points to their score!

Round Three – ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’

In round 3 – the ‘Multiple Choice’ round, despite 5 of the teams chosing to play their Jokers, the scores were fairly low.

“Smarteenies on Tour” were the top-scorers in this round on 12 points, thanks to their Joker.

Round Four – ‘Picture Round’

The Picture Round this week acknowledged ‘Star Wars Day’ on May 4th earlier in the week.

The teams had to name the ten Star Wars characters, and again this lead to some really high scores.

EIGHT teams scored 10/10 with SEVEN teams also achieving perfect scores, but doubled by their Joker. 2 Bonus Points were awarded to all of them!

Round Five – ‘Themed Round’

For round 5, the theme was ‘Scottish Political History’ to mark the local elections the same day.

Not such a hot topic this one – none of our teams managing to score any higher than 5/10.

Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout Round’

The Snowball Jackpot had now increased to £20 for this weeks ‘Total Wipeout’ round.

Despite TEN of the teams failing to score ANY points – we finally had a winner this week!

“Quizzardry” scored the magical 10/10 to get their hands on the £20!

So the Jackpot goes back to £10 for the Quiz next week!

Round Seven – ”Guess Who?’ Round’

In the final ‘Guess Who?’ round, TEN teams correctly guessed that our mystery celebrity this week was broadcasting legend Michael Parkinson – and all on the first clue!

“Universally Challenged” were drawn out to win the £20 cash prize this week!

It was another closely-fought Quiz this week, with only five points separating our top 5 teams.

It was “The Bridies” who sneaked it on 79 points, just 1 point ahead of “The Clan” to win the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card.
