Week #160 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support

Week 2 of the Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support was packed out as 19 teams helped our Quizmaster celebrate his 50th birthday!

In Round One, “Universally Challenged” took an early lead, scoring 9/10.

For the Word Puzzle Round this week, it was a wordsearch – the topic was ‘These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things’ all about our host. This saw some incredible scoring, with EIGHTEEN of the teams scoring full marks to gain 2 Bonus Points each – including “Universally Challenged” to see them maintain their lead.

In Round 3, “Bonnie & Clyde” scored 10/10 to earn two more Bonus Points, but they were out-done by “Simple Minds” who played their Joker to score 16 points to win the ‘Multiple Choice’ round.

The theme for the Picture Round this week was ‘Name The Breed’ – ten cartoon pictures of well-known dog breeds. “Lucky Strike” top-scored in this round, with 18 points, thanks to their Joker.

The Themed Round this week was all about the year 1975, celebrating the birth year of our host. “Our Drinking Team Has A Quiz Problem” too top spot in this round with 14 points, thanks to their Joker.

In ‘Total Wipeout’ this week, the Snowball Jackpot had been reset to £10, but there were no winners this week – EIGHT teams scoring ZERO and “The Clan” top-scoring on 8 points.

The final ‘Guess Who?’ round saw “Craig & Mike” and “Our Drinking Team Has A Quiz Problem” both correctly name Welsh TV star Rob Brydon as the mystery celebrity. “Craig & Mike” were drawn out as the winners of the £20 cash prize, which they very generously donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

An incredibly close-run quiz saw “The Clan” edge it as winners of the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card this week, with only five points separating the top-five teams this week.
We look forward to seeing you at The Compass this Thursday from 8pm
