Week #168 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support (08/01/2026)
The first Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of 2026 was an extremely busy night, with 19 teams taking part, including SIX new teams!
This was our eagerly-anticipated special ‘Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2025’
In Round One, “Bonnie & Clyde” and “The Clan” shared an early lead, each scoring 9/10.
The Word Puzzle Round was a straightforward wordsearch, using months of the year, and our teams capitalised fully – 18 of the teams scoring full marks, and only one point dropped in the entire round. It also meant that those 18 teams all earned their first 2 Bonus Points of the night!
In Round 3, newcomers “The Campbell Clan” and “The Trampbers” were the top-scorers with 10 points each, albeit as a result of both having played their Jokers,
In the General Knowledge Multiple Choice round, another 5 teams scored 10/10, again meaning 2 Bonus Points for each of them.
Despite “Craig & Mike”, “Tequila Mockingbird” and “The Clan” all carding 10/10 – and getting 2 Bonus Points each – for the Themed Round (which was all about 2025), it was “The Wotsits” who top-scored with their Joker-boosted score of 18 points to win the round
In ‘Total Wipeout’, the Snowball Jackpot now stood at £90, but again there were now winners – THIRTEEN of the teams failing to score at all – and so the prize pot goes up to the maximum £100 next week.
The final round saw our teams left to ‘Guess Who?’ this weeks mystery celebrity was. On the very first clue, “Craig & Mike”, “Caledonian MacBrains”, “Bonnie & Clyde”, “Simple Minds”, “Tequila Mockingbird”, “The Bridies”, Half A Scot” and “Some Team” ALL correctly identified Donald Trump as our Mystery Celebrity. “Craig & Mike” were drawn out as the lucky winners of the £20, which they very generously donated back to Macmillan Cancer Support.
This weeks winners were “The Clan” on 89 points, giving them the first £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card of the year.
We also named our ‘Team of the Year’ for 2025, which saw the 2024 winners “The Bridies” triumph again!
