Week #164 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support (11/12/2025)
December’s second Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support saw 13 teams competing, including new players “Root 66” and “The Poosers”. This takes the total number of teams who have participated since the Quiz began, to a staggering 349!
As usual, round one was ‘Starter For Ten’, and “The Clan” did just that, scoring full marks to take an early lead, gaining 2 Bonus Points for the perfect start.
For the Word Puzzle Round, we were back with ‘Anagrams’ and the topic this time was ‘Classic Novels of the 20th Century’. This was a really low-scoring round, with “Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot” winning the round on 8 points, albeit with their Joker.
In round 3, “The Clan” opted to play their Joker, and did so to perfection, scoring 20 points to gain another 2 Bonus Points. Special mention as well to “Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot”, scoring 10/10 in this round to get 2 Bonus Points of their own.
In the Picture Round, the teams were tasked with naming the British TV soap from the characters pictured on the clue sheets. As usual, this round prompted a number of Jokers to be played – five teams sharing the spoils in round 4 on 18 points apiece.
The Themed Round was ‘True or False’ and “dumb & Dumber” as the only team left to play their Joker top-scored for the round on 14 points.
After last week, the ‘Total Wipeout’, Snowball Jackpot was now a tasty £50. However, there were no winners again this week – NINE teams failing to score any points, and so the prize pot goes up to £60 next week, just in time for our ‘Big Fat Xmas Quiz’!
The final ‘Guess Who?’ round saw our teams left to this weeks mystery celebrity. “Dumb & Dumber” guessed that it was infamous American gangster Al Capone on the very first clue. As the only team to do so, the £20 cash prize was theirs!
Having led from the first round, “The Clan” were impressive winners of the Quiz this week, finishing on 81 points to win the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card, ahead of “The Bridies” on 70 points, and “Craig & Mike” on 67.
We look forward to seeing you at The Compass this Thursday for our ‘Big Fat Xmas Quiz’ from 8pm
