Week #169 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (15/01/2026)
The second Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of January saw 17 teams participating, another great turnout for the time of year.
In Round One, “Universally Challenged” made a perfect start, scoring 10/10, to take an early lead.
The Word Puzzle Round was ‘Blockbusters’. TEN teams opted to play their Jokers in this round, with nine of those scoring full marks to get 2 Bonus Points. This included “Universally Challenged” meaning a perfect start for them with 4 Bonus Points already secured.
Six other teams would also secure 2 Bonus Points in this round, scoring 10/10.
No Jokers were played in Round 3, but “The Bridies”, “The Clan”, “The Wotsits” and “One For Yersel'” all scored 9/10.
The Picture Round was pictures of characters used in UK TV advertising campaigns – the teams were asked to name the brand or product from the advertisement. SEVEN teams got all 10 answers correct to gain two more Bonus Points, with “Craig & Mike”, “The Giggle Gang”, and “One For Yersel'” all having played their Jokers to get 20 points each.
The Themed Round was ‘a Music Round – ‘Movie Themes by John Williams’. This proved to be another high-scoring round with SIX teams scoring 10/10. “Dunderheids” were the top of the pile though, playing their Joker perfectly to get the maximum 20 points.
In ‘Total Wipeout’, the Snowball Jackpot now stood at the maximum £100, so our teams were eagerly anticipating this round. It ended in tears for many of our teams, with NINE TEAMS scoring ZERO and “The Bridies” top-scoring on 7 points.
The £100 is therefore donated to MacMillan Cancer Support, and the Jackpot is reset at £10 for next week.
The final round saw our teams left to ‘Guess Who?’ this weeks mystery celebrity was. On the very first clue, “The Bridies” guessed Anne Robinson, and won the £20 prize.
It was enough to give them the lead in the final round, and they held on to win the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card.
