Week #171 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (29/01/2026)

The fourth and final Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of January was another packed night, with 19 teams taking part, including “The D-Dawgs” and “The Infringers” taking part for the first time.

Round One – ‘Starter For Ten’

In Round One, “Caledonian MacBrains” took the early lead, being the only team to play their Joker, with a score of 12 points.

Round Two – ‘Word Puzzle Round’

For the Word Puzzle Round, the topic was ‘Dingbats’ and there were quite a number of Jokers played in this round. “Universally Challenged” scored a perfect 10/10 to earn 2 Bonus Points.

“Tequila Mockingbird” and “The Stoaters” both got all ten answers correct as well, but both had played their Joker cards to score the maximum 22 points with their 2 Bonus Points included.

Round Three – ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’

The ‘Multiple Choice’ round saw newcomers “The Infringers” come out on top, with a Joker-boosted score of 14 points.

Round Four – ‘Picture Round’

For the Picture Round, the teams had to ‘Name The Movie’ from the emojis on the clue sheets.

This was a REALLY high-scoring round. FIFTEEN of the teams scored full marks, with the other four teams getting nine answers correct.

“Dunderheids”, “The Clan”, “The Giggle Gang” and “One For Yersel'” all played their Jokers and so scored 22 points.

Round Five – ‘Themed Round’

This week, the movie theme carried on – as a music round. The teams were asked to guess the movie from the extracts of the movie theme tunes.

Again, this saw quite a few high scores, with “Craig & Mike”, “Tequila Mockingbird” and “The Bridies” all scoring perfect 10s to get 2 Bonus Points. “Simple Minds” and “The Wotsits” had played their Jokers however, and tied at the top on 18 points for this round

Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout Round’

With the Snowball Jackpot now being at £20, would we see any winners of ‘Total Wipeout’ this week?

Well, no. Six teams scored ‘zero’ and whilst a few teams managed to register 7 points, the pot goes up to £30 as we start the February Quiz.

Round Seven – ”Guess Who?’ Round’

In the final ‘Guess Who?’ round, “Tequila Mockingbird” were the first team to correctly figure out that our mystery celebrity was British comedy actress Dame Penelope Keith, on the second clue, giving them 18 points AND the £20 cash prize for the round!

That was enough to see “Tequila Mockingbird” run out as winners with a score of 85 points, giving them the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card.

It was double celebration for “Tequila Mockingbird” as they were named Joint Team of the Month for January, alongside “The Bridies”. Well done to both teams!
