Week #174 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (19/02/2026)

The penultimate Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of February was another really busy night, with 17 (big) teams taking part.

Round One – ‘Starter For Ten’

In the ‘Starter for Ten’ round, none of the teams played their Jokers.  No teams managed to score 10/10 either in the first round, but we had SEVEN teams in joint third place on 8 points, and “The Bridies” and “The Clan” tied in first place on 9 points at the end of round 1.

Round Two – ‘Word Puzzle Round’

For the Word Puzzle Round this week, it was a wordsearch.  The teams had to find the names of ten Fife towns which have train stations in them.  Quite a number of Jokers were played in this round – FOURTEEN in fact.  And EVERY team got full marks to get 2 Bonus Points on the board already!

Round Three – ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’

In the ‘Multiple Choice’ round, there weren’t any Jokers played, but “Smarteenies On Tour” top-scored with 9 points.

Round Four – ‘Picture Round’

For this weeks Picture Round, our teams were presented with ten national flags.  Every flag was from a country that contained ‘land’ in its name, and our teams were tasked with naming the country.

“Caledonian MacBrains”, “Craig & Mike”, “Mirren’s Team”, “Smarteenies on Tour”, “Tequila Mockingbird”, “The Bridies” and “The Clan” ALL scored 10/10 to get their 3rd and 4th Bonus Points of the evening.  But “Our Drinking Team Has A Quiz Problem” played their Joker AND got all ten answers correct to score 20 points and get their second set of Bonus Points too!

Round Five – ‘Themed Round’

The Themed Round this week was a music round – ten songs all containing the word ‘Bad’ in the title.

“Our Drinking Team Has A Quiz Problem” continued their hot streak, scoring 10/10 again, taking their Bonus Points for the evening to an impressive SIX!

Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout Round’

The Snowball Jackpot had been won the previous week, and so was back to £10

Only four teams failed to register a point this week, with “Craig & Mike” top-scoring on 8 points!

No winners though, so the Snowball Jackpot goes to £20 for next week.

Round Seven – ”Guess Who?’ Round’

In the final ‘Guess Who?’ round, “One For Yersel'”, “Tequila Mockingbird”, “The Clan” and “The Giggle Gang” had all correctly guessed that Hollywood actor Robert Duvall, who had sadly passed earlier in the week, was our mystery ‘Guess Who?’ celebrity.

And it was “The Giggle Gang” who were drawn out to win the £20 cash prize for the round!  Well done to them!

It was another keenly-contested quiz this week, with just seven points between our top six teams.

A tiebreak question was required to separate “Craig & Mike” and “Tequila Mockingbird” in 3rd place.  As usual, whichever team gets closest to the correct answer wins, and “Tequila Mockingbird” got the answer spot-on, so took third place, despite “Craig & Mike”‘s answer only being one out as well.

Having scored two perfect rounds, (one with a Joker) and getting 20 points in the ‘Guess Who?’ round, “The Clan” were our winners this week with a total score of 84 points, seeing them claim the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card.

We look forward to seeing you at The Compass this Thursday from 8pm as we continue having great fun every week, raising much-needed funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
