Week #175 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (26/02/2026)

The final Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of February was possibly the busiest of the year so far, with TWENTY-TWO teams taking part, consisting of over 100 participants.

We were delighted to welcome our newest teams, “2FA”, “The Hot Flushes” and “Turtle Power & Master Splinter”

Round One – ‘Starter For Ten’

In Round One, “Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot” got off the best start, having played their Joker. A score of 16 points saw them take top spot at the end of the ‘Starter for Ten’ round. Caledonian MacBrains had scored a perfect 10/10 to earn themselves 2 Bonus Points as well!

Round Two – ‘Word Puzzle Round’

The Word Puzzle Round was ‘Ditloids’, where the teams had to figure out common phrases from the clues, which contained a combination of numbers and letters only.

“Dunderheids”, “Mirren’s Team”, “Universally Challenged”, “2FA”, “The Hotflushes” and “Turtle Power & Master Splinter” ALL got 10/10 for the first Bonus Points of the evening. But “Craig & Mike” and “The Bridies” both scored 20 points with their Jokers, and added 2 Bonus Points each.

Round Three – ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’

In round 3 – the ‘Multiple Choice’ round – “The Clan” and “The Stoaters” both scored 10/10 to secure 2 Bonus Points each, but “Agatha Quiz-Tee”, “Caledonian MacBrains” and “Turtle Power & Master Splinter” shared top spot in this round on 14 points, each having played their Joker card.

Round Four – ‘Picture Round’

The Picture Round this week was called ‘Going Nuts’. Our teams were tasked with correctly guessing 10 varieties of nuts from their pictures.

“Caledonian McBrains”, “Craig & Mike”, “The Clan”, “and “Turtle Power & Master Splinter” ALL scored 10/10 to take their respective Bonus Points tally for the evening to FOUR!

“We’re Still Thinking” also had a perfect round, but had played their Joker, scoring a maximum 22 points with their 2 Bonus Points included.

Round Five – ‘Themed Round’

Into round 5 then, and it was another music round this week – our teams having to name the artists from the extracts of the 10 tracks played to them.

Nobody scored full marks, but there were a number of Jokers played, and some high scores as a result. “Mirren’s Team” came out on top in this round with a score of 16 points!

Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout Round’

The Snowball Jackpot stood at £20 this week, but with TWELVE of the teams failing to score any points, their were no winners.

The Jackpot will now go up to £30 (wooo!) for the start of March!

Round Seven – ”Guess Who?’ Round’

In the final ‘Guess Who?’ round, it took FOUR clues for any of the teams to guess correctly – and then ELEVEN teams all got it right on the same clue!

Newcomers “The Hot Flushes” had correctly guessed TV sports broadcasting legend Des Lynam as our mystery celebrity and were drawn out to win the £20. They very generously donated their winnings to Macmillan Cancer Support, so a HUGE thanks to them!

It was another closely-fought Quiz this week, but no tie-breaks this time around.

“Craig & Mike” were this weeks winners on 76 points, just ahead of “The Bridies” on 72 pts, and “Dunderheids” on 71.

So “Craig & Mike” got their hands on the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card this time around.

“The Clan” were crowned our “Team of the Month” for February, winning £50 for their efforts – they very generously donated some of their winnings to Macmillan as well. Hugely appreciated!
