Week #179 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (26/03/2026)

The final Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of March was another REALLY busy evening, with TWENTY teams taking part, including our newest participants “Scan The QR Code” and “Golden Anniversaries”.

Round One – ‘Starter For Ten’

Round One was a tough test for our teams this week.

Only “Seal Pointers” played their Joker, and despite the round being called ‘Starter For Ten’, none of our teams managed to score particularly well, with “The Bridies” managing 8/10 to take an early lead.

Round Two – ‘Word Puzzle Round’

For the Word Puzzle Round this week, our teams were tasked with unscrambling ten anagrams, all of which were the names of famous world tourist attractions.

This prompted a flurry of Joker cards being played, and “Agatha Quiz-tee”, “Bonnie & Clyde”, “Dunderheids” and “Blood, Sweat & Beers” were our joint top-scorers on 16 points.

Round Three – ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’

In the ‘Multiple Choice’ round “Simple Minds” were the first team of the night to record a perfect score, with 10/10 to earn 2 Bonus Points.

But having played their Joker card, “Golden Anniversaries” were able to celebrate winning the third round with 16 points.

Round Four – ‘Picture Round’

For the Picture Round this week, we gave the teams pictures of ten icons of the 20th century.  But rather than name them, we asked the teams to guess which decade these icons had died in instead!

We had perfect scores from “Craig & Mike” and “Blades of Glory” in this round, to give them each their first 2 Bonus Points of the evening.

However, “One For Yersel'”, “Our Drinking Team Has A Quiz Problem” and “Tequila Mockingbird” had all scored 16 points with their Jokers to share the round.

Round Five – ‘Themed Round’

It was a musical theme for Round 5 again this week, and our teams were asked to ‘Name The Song’ this time.

Most of our teams scored pretty well in this round, but none more so than “Blades of Glory”, who acheived the maximum 22 points, having got a perfect score with their Joker card!

Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout Round’

The Snowball Jackpot was up to a tasty £60 this week, and despite NINE of our teams managing to register some points, there were still no winners this week.

The Jackpot will now go up to £70 (wooo!) for the start of April!

Round Seven – ”Guess Who?’ Round’

In the final ‘Guess Who?’ round, FOUR of our our teams correctly identified broadcaster Kirsty Wark as our mystery celebrity on the second clue.

Although “Team Mac”, “The Stoaters” and “Universally Challenged” had all got the answer right at the same time, it was “Bonnie & Clyde” who were drawn out as the lucky winners of the £20 prize for the round.

It took a tie-break to split “Bonnie & Clyde” from “Tequila Mockingbird” in 3rd place on 62 points, with “The Bridies” runners-up on 66 points this week.

Our final winners for March were “Blades of Glory” who claimed the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card this week.

“The Bridies” were the ‘Team of the Month’ for March, scoring 78 points overall, winning the £50 prize.

Our runners-up “The Stoaters” scored 70 points for the month, earning them £25 and “The Wotsits” came third on 67 points to give them the £10 prize.

We look forward to seeing you at The Compass this Thursday from 8pm, and also hope to see you at our family/easter themed Quiz on Easter Sunday at 4pm!
