Week #180 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (02/04/2026)

The first Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of April was JAM-PACKED, with TWENTY-THREE teams taking part, and barely a spare chair in the house!  We were also delighted to welcome our newest team, “The Divas” to The Compass.

Round One – ‘Starter For Ten’

In Round One, none of our teams chose to play their Joker card.
 
This meant that, having both scored 9/10, “The Bridies” and “The Clan” shared the lead after the ‘Starter For ten’ round.

Round Two – ‘Word Puzzle Round’

The Word Puzzle Round was another new challenge this week, with the teams given the names of ten well-known foodstuffs in their native (the foods, not the quizzers!).  The teams had to correctly guess the English translation.
 
With a few Jokers having been played, “Caledonian MacBrains” were top of the pile in this round, scoring 18 points with their Joker card.

Round Three – ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’

In round 3 – the ‘Multiple Choice’ round – we saw our first Bonus Points scored…”Craig & Mike” and “Tequila Mockingbird” both scoring 10/10.
 
However, “Agatha Quiz-tee” were the top scorers on this round with 18 points, courtesy of their Joker.

Round Four – ‘Picture Round’

The Picture Round was embarrassingly easy for many of our teams this week, as they were tasked with naming ten well-known beers and lagers from their labels, with the name having been removed.
 
“Blades of Glory”, “Craig & Mike”, “Quiztopher Walken”, “Quizzardry”, “Team Mac” and “The Clan” ALL scored 10/10 to earn 2 Bonus Points.
 
But “Bonnie & Clyde”, “Dunderheids”, “Our Drinking Team Has A Quiz Problem”, “Tequila Mockingbird”, “The Big Fact Hunt”, “The Bridies”, “The Giggle Gang” and “Universally Challenged” also scored full marks, but having played their Jokers, got the maximum 22 points for the round.
 

Round Five – ‘Themed Round’

For the fifth round, this week we acknowledged the milestone of reaching our 180th quiz with ‘180’ being the topic for the Themed Round.

There were some quite testing questions in this round, and “Quizzardry” came out on top, scoring 16 points thanks to their Joker. 

Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout Round’

The Snowball Jackpot had now increased to £70 for this weeks ‘Total Wipeout’ round.

“Caledonian MacBrains” were the top-scorers this week on 8/10, but with THIRTEEN teams scoring zero points, the Snowball Jackpot goes up to £80 for next week!

Round Seven – ”Guess Who?’ Round’

For the final ‘Guess Who?’ round, our teams REALLY struggled this week, with only eight teams correctly guessing that German-Irish actor Michael Fassbender was our mystery celebrity!

“The Clan” were the only team to correctly guess on the first clue, and so won the £20 unchallenged.

It was a quite low-scoring, but still tightly-scoring Quiz this week, with only 6 points separating our top three teams.
 
“Tequila Mockingbird” won the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card this week, with a final score of 75 points.
 
Our runners-up on 74 points were “The Clan”, followed by “The Bridies” on 69 points.
