Week #184 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (30/04/2026)

The fifth and final Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of April saw another 19 teams competing, including our newest participants “Morse Coders” and “Smarteenies”.

Round One – ‘Starter For Ten’

Round One saw SEVEN of our teams start of with a perfect 10/10 to earn 2 Bonus Points – “Bonnie & Clyde”, “Dunderheids”, “The Bridies”, “The Clan”, “The Wotsits”, “Morse Coders” and “Smarteenies”.

However, “Caledonian MacBrains” had also got all 10 answers correct, but had played their Joker card to score the maximum 22 Points to take an early lead.

Round Two – ‘Word Puzzle Round’

The Word Puzzle Round saw some really high scores, with a number of Jokers played.

The topic this week was ‘Blankety Blank’ featuring the names of movies starring Scottish acting legend Sean Connery.

Although “One For Yersel'” managed a perfect 10/10 to get 2 Bonus Points, “Dunderheids”, “Tequila Mockingbird”, “Universally Challenged” and “Morse Coders” all scored the maximum 22 points having played their Joker cards.

Round Three – ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’

In round 3 – the ‘Multiple Choice’ round “The Wotsits” enjoyed another perfect score to earn 2 more Bonus Points, but “Agatha Quiz-Tee” won the round on 14 points thanks to their Joker.

Round Four – ‘Picture Round’

The Picture Round this week saw our teams tasked with correctly guessing the names of ten well-known brands, with only a single-letter logo as a clue.

Again, there were some really high scores in this round. “Agatha Quiz-Tee”, “Bonnie & Clyde”, “Mirren’s Team”, “Quizteam Aguilera”, “Simple Minds”, “The Divas” and “Smarteenies” all scored 10/10 to get 2 Bonus Points.

But “One For Yersel'” and “Our Drinking Team Has A Quiz Problem” had both scored 18 points with their Joker cards to tie for the round.

Round Five – ‘Themed Round’

The Themed Round this week was another music round – the teams required to ‘Name The Movie’ from the famous theme song.

Although “The Bridies”, “The Wotsits”, “Universally Challenged” and “Morse Coders” all got all ten answers correct (winning 2 Bonus Points), “The Clan” had saved their Joker till now, and scored 18 points to win the round.

Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout Round’

The Snowball Jackpot was back at £10 this week, but with “The Clan” top-scoring on 8 points, the prize fund goes up to £20 for the start of May.

Round Seven – ”Guess Who?’ Round’

In the final ‘Guess Who?’ round, only “Morse Coders” correctly guessed that comedy legend Benny Hill was our mystery celebrity on the first clue, giving them the £20 cash prize on their first night!

Nearly 90 Quizzers took part in this weeks Quiz in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, so a HUGE thanks to everyone!

Having amassed an impressive 6 Bonus Points, it was an emphatic debut win for “Morse Coders” with a total score of 90 points!

The £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card was theirs!

“The Bridies” and “The Wotsits” tied for second place.

“The Bridies” were also named our ‘Team of the Month’ for April, with “Universally Challenged” in second place and “Tequila Mockingbird” in third.
