Week #187 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (21/05/2026)

The third Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of May saw another fantastic turnout with 21 teams and more than 70 quizzers taking part.

Round One – ‘Starter For Ten’ Round

Our teams got off to a flyer in Round One (‘Starter for Ten’) despite no Joker cards being played.

“Craig & Mike”, “One For Yersel'”, “Quizzardry”, “The Wotsits”, “Universally Challenged” and newcomers “Hoddit & Doddit” ALL started off with a perfect 10/10 to earn them all 2 Bonus points and a share of the lead.

Round Two – ‘Word Puzzle’ Round

The Word Puzzle Round this week was anagrams, with the puzzles being names of types of cheese!

There were TEN Jokers played in this round, but it was “The Clan” who took full advantage scoring the maximum 20 points with their Joker, to secure their first 2 Bonus Points of the evening.

Round Three – ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’ Round

This week, round 3 – the ‘Multiple Choice’ round was quite a low-scoring round, with only two Jokers being played.

Our top-scorers for the round were “Lucky Strike”, with 14 points, courtesy of their Joker.

Round Four – ‘Picture’ Round

Our Picture Round this week was ‘Musical Movies’ with the teams given 10 images from well-known musical movies and given the easy (or not) task of naming them.

This was a REALLY high-scoring round with TWELVE teams scoring full marks, and a further three teams scoring 14 points or more thanks to playing their Joker cards!

“Simple Minds”, “Tequila Mockingbird”, “The Clan”, “Hoddit & Doddit”, “The Part-Timers” and “Team No Eye-Dear” ALL scored 10/10 to get 2 Bonus Points each!

However, “Agatha Quiz-Tee”, “My Favourite Team”, “Quizteam Aguilera”, “The Stoaters”, “The Wotsits” and “Universally Challenged” ALL scored 20 points with their Jokers, again all earning 2 Bonus Points.

Round Five – ‘Themed’ Round

Our Themed Round this week was a ‘Beat The Intro’ music round, with the teams having to name the ten tracks from the intro extracts played.

“Craig & Mike” got their second 10/10 of the night to earn another 2 Bonus Points.

“My Favourite Team” and “The Stoaters” both recorded perfect scores for the second successive round, to take their Bonus Points total for the night to 4 each, but “Universally Challenged” scored their third perfect round of the evening, giving them 6 Bonus Points overall!

Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout’ Round

The Snowball Jackpot had gone up to £20 for this weeks ‘Total Wipeout’ round.

Only 7 of our teams managed to register ANY points this week, with “Universally Challenged” top-scoring on 4 points.

So no winners again this week, and the Snowball Jackpot goes up to THIRTY POUNDS as we head into the final week of the Quiz!

Round Seven – ‘Guess Who?’ Round

The final ‘Guess Who?’ round this week saw TEN teams correctly guess Scottish TV personality Carol Smillieas this weeks mystery celebrity on the second clue.

And despite being a ‘one-man-band’ this week, “Dunderheids” were drawn out of the champagne bucket to win the £20 cash prize this week!

It took another tie-break this week to separate “Agatha Quiz-tee” and “Craig & Mike” for third place (“Agatha Quiz-Tee” winning that one!).

“The Clan” were runners-up this week on 78 points, but they couldn’t catch “Universally Challenged” who were this weeks winners on 82 points!

It saw them crowned as the winners for this week, securing the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card.
