Week #163 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support (04/12/2025)
The first Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of December was another busy night, with16 teams taking part, including our newest team “The Quizmas Miracles”.
In Round One, “Craig & Mike”, “Tequila Mockingbird” and “Universally Challenged” all made perfect starts, scoring 10/10. Despite them all earning 2 Bonus Points each, it was “Caledonian MacBrains” who took the early lead, playing their Joker to score 16 points.
The Word Puzzle Round was a take on the popular TV game show ‘Blockbusters’. And it proved to be a real success, with only 4 teams dropping 1 point each, and all of the others scoring full marks to get 2 Bonus Points. “Universally Challenged” were amongst those to play their Jokers for this round, putting them into the lead overall.
In Round 3, “The Clan” lead the way, scoring 20 points with their Joker, for their second successive 2 Bonus Points, despite “Team Mac” running them close on 18 points.
‘Emojis – Name The Brand’ was the topic for the Picture Round, and this time it was “Our Drinking Team Has A Quiz Problem” who nailed the 20 points to get their first 2 Bonus Points of the evening.
The Themed Round was ‘TV Themes Tunes of the 20th Century’ – “Dunderheids” and “The Stoaters” got all ten right to earn themselves their third and fourth Bonus Points of the evening, but “Simple Minds” played their Joker to good effect, scoring 16 points.
In ‘Total Wipeout’, the Snowball Jackpot now stood at £40, but again there were now winners – SEVEN of the teams failing to score at all – and so the prize pot goes up to £50 next week.
The final round saw our teams left to ‘Guess Who?’ this weeks mystery celebrity was. On the second clue, “Simple Minds”, “Tequila Mockingbird”, “The Bridies”, “The Clan” and “The Stoaters” all correctly identified Claudia Winkelman.
“The Bridies” were drawn out, winning the £20 cash prize.
Another very competitive quiz saw just 11 points separate our top- six teams. This week, the winners were “Tequila Mockingbird” on 82 points, giving them the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card.
