Week #189 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (04/06/2026)

The first Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support of June was a really busy night, with 18 teams and over 70 enthusiastic quizzers taking part.

We also announced some new Bonus Points starting this week.

Any team who gets 10 answers correct on ‘Total Wipeout’ will now get their Bonus Points for the evening DOUBLED as well as winning the cash prize, and getting the normal 10 points.

Of course, if they haven’t got any Bonus Points, unfortunately there is nothing to double!

In addition, EVERY team who gets the ‘Guess Who?’ mystery celebrity answer correct on the FIRST CLUE will receive 10 Bonus Points towards their total for ‘Team of the Month’ which should make things REALLY interesting at the end of the month!

Round One – ‘Starter For Ten’

In Round One, “Caledonian MacBrains” got off to an absolute flyer, the only team to have played their Joker and getting full marks to start off with a maximum score of 22 points.

Round Two – ‘Word Puzzle Round’

The Word Puzzle Round was ‘the first of a few musically-themed rounds this week.

It was ‘Inconsonants’ with the clues all names of song titles that included female names – but all the teams had to work with was the vowels!

We had quite a few Jokers played in this round, so we had quite a few high scores too.

“The Clan”, “The Wotsits” and “Universally Challenged” all got their first bonus points of the night scoring 10/10 each.

But “Dunderheids”, “Tequila Mockingbird”, and “The Bridies” had all played their Jokers AND got perfect scores, to earn their first 2 Bonus Points and maximum scores of the evening.

Round Three – ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’

Despite only one team playing their Joker in round 3 – the ‘Multiple Choice’ round – FOUR of our teams scored 10/10 to get 2 more Bonus Points.

“Caledonian MacBrains”, “The Bridies”, “The Clan” and “Universally Challenged” all took their tally of Bonus Points for the evening to 4, but “Hoddit & Doddit” won the round on 14 points, courtesy of their Joker.

Round Four – ‘Picture Round’

The Picture Round this week was another musically-themed round. The teams were shown images of ten iconic lead singers, and had to name the groups that they fronted.

This was a fantastically high-scoring round – only 2 points dropped across all of our teams, with SIXTEEN teams getting 2 Bonus Points in this round.

“The Bridies”, “The Clan” and “Universally Challenged” clocked up their 5th and 6th Bonus Points for the evening.

“Agatha Quiztee”, “Quizteam Aguilera”, “The Giggle Gang”, “The Wotsits” and “Universally Challenged” all recorded manximum scores of 22 points in this round!

Round Five – ‘Themed Round’

Round 5 was another Music Round – this week, the topic was ‘Name the Artist’.

This one was nowhere near as high-scoring as the previous round – an average score of 6 points across the teams for this round!

Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout Round’

The Snowball Jackpot had now increased to £40 for this weeks ‘Total Wipeout’ round.

Despite 10 of the teams failing to register any points in the round this week, “Hoddit & Doddit” got all ten answers correct to win the £40 AND double their Bonus Points tally for the evening!

So this means that the Jackpot will now go back to £10 (wooo!) for the Quiz next week!

Round Seven – ”Guess Who?’ Round’

In the final ‘Guess Who?’ round, SIX teams guessed correctly on the first clue that our mystery celebrity this week was singing star Harry Styles.

This also meant that “Dunderheids”, “Quizteam Aguilera”, “Simple Minds”, “The Giggle Gang”, “The Stoaters” and “The Wotsits” ALL get 10 Bonus Points towards their ‘Team of the Month’ total – but it was “The Wotsits” who were drawn out to win the £20 cash prize this week!

It was another closely-fought Quiz this week, with “The Bridies” winning this week with a score of 85 points!

This saw them get the first £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card of June.
