The Thursday Pub Quiz at Hugo’s – (08/10/2026)

The second of October’s weekly Thursday Pub Quiz nights at Hugo’s Bar & Pavilion saw another fantastic turnout!

This week, we welcomed TWENTY teams to the Quiz!

Quizmaster this week was Scott, on his first official ‘solo outing’!

Round One - Starter For Ten

“Caledonian MacBrains” opted to play their Joker in Round One, and although they did score 10 points in the ‘Starter for Ten’ round, this was largely due to them having played their Joker card.

It did see them go into an early lead however, with none of the other teams scoring better than 8 points.

Round Two - Word Puzzle Round : 'Blockbusters'

The topic for the Word Puzzle Round this week was ‘Blockbusters’ again, which had been chosen for us via the ‘Wheel of Misfortune’ last week by bottom-placed “Despair Shop”.

This prompted SIXTEEN of our teams to play their Joker cards, and it worked out particularly well for “One For Yersel'” and “The Last Place Legends”, both of whom scored a maximum 20 points to earn the forst 2 Bonus Points of the evening each as well!

Round Three - Multiple Choice General Knowledge

Perhaps unsurprisingly, there were no Joker cards played for Round 3.

Despite this, there were still some good scores, with five teams scoring 9/10

Round Four - Picture Round : 'Name The Doctor Who Decade '

For the Picture Round this week, our teams were presented with the faces of 10 actors who had played the role of the iconic ‘Doctor Who’ – their task was to name the decade that this actor played the famous TV doctor.

Although there were no Jokers played for this round, four of our teams – “Craig & Mike”, “Dunderheds”, “One For Yersel'” and “The Last Place Legends” ALL scored 10/10 to earn 2 Bonus Points each!

Round Five - Themed Round : '90s Popular Culture'

The Themed Round this week was ’90s Popular Culture’ which again prompted some impressive scoring.

Although “Quizteama Aguilera” scored a perfect 10/10 on this round to earn 2 Bonus Points, they were unable to win the round, with “Simple Minds” scoring 14 points thanks to their Joker card.

Round Six - Total Wipeout Round : £100 Snowball Cash Jackpot

Our updated incentive for ‘Total Wipeout’ means that as well as winning up to £100 in cash, any team who gets 10 answers correct on ‘Total Wipeout’ will now get their Bonus Points for the evening DOUBLED!

Plus they get 10 points towards their score for the evening!

Of course, if they haven’t got any Bonus Points, unfortunately there is nothing to double!

This week, the Snowball Jackpot stood at the maximum £100 – but with FOURTEEN teams scoring zero points, and no team scoring higher than 6 points, the Jackpot monies will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support and the prize pot resets to £10 for next week.

Round Seven - 'Guess Who?'

In the final round, EVERY team who gets the ‘Guess Who?’ mystery celebrity answer correct on the FIRST CLUE will receive 10 Bonus Points towards their total for ‘Team of the Month’ which should make things REALLY interesting at the end of the month!

But would any of the teams manage it this week?

In fact, only “Universally Challenged” correctly guessed American actress Jennifer Aniston as our mystery celebrity on the first clue this week, giving them all twenty points for the week AND ten bonus points for ‘Team of the Month’

This meant that they won the £20 cash prize for the round this week so congratulations to them!

Another exciting Quiz saw our top 4 teams separated by just 4 points.

“Universally Challenged” were this week’s winners of the £25 Hugo’s Gift Voucher with a score of 73 points.

Our runners-up were “Craig & Mike” on 71 points, with “Dunderheids” 3rd on 70 points.

Normal service was resumed this week as “2 n’ Coo” once again had the dubious honour of spinning the ‘Wheel of Misfortune’ to see what the theme would be for the Word Puzzle Round next week – and this they landed on number 6, meaning that ‘Cockney Rhyming Slang’ will be the topic for our teams.

Team of the Month

10 points are awarded towards your ‘Team of the Month’ score for every week that your team takes part.

In addition, the team with the Highest Average Score in the month gets a further 10 points, with second-highest getting 9 points, and so on.

The same scoring is in place for the Highest Cumulative Monthly Score, the Highest Weekly Score and the Highest Cumulative Bonus Points.

We will also give teams an additional 10 points for each time they get the ‘Guess Who?’ answer correct on the first clue.

Our ‘Team of the Month’ will be the team with the most points after all of this, and wins £50, with second-place getting £25 and third-place receiving £10!
