The Thursday Pub Quiz at Hugo’s – (01/10/2026)

The first of October’s weekly Thursday Pub Quiz nights at Hugo’s Bar & Pavilion in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support saw an fantastic FORTY-SEVEN quizzers taking part!

This week, we welcomed THIRTEEN teams to the Quiz, including new team “Lettuce Remain Friends”.

Our Quizmaster this week again was Scott.

Who would be our first ‘Team of the Week’ for October?

Round One - Starter For Ten

Again, none of the teams played their Joker in the first round, but the scoring for ‘Starter for Ten’ was still fairly high.

Despite there being no perfect scores to start the night, “Dunderheids” and “Tequila Mockingbird” both started off with a strong 9/10 to take a join lead after Round One.

Round Two - Word Puzzle Round : 'Blockbusters'

We didn’t have long to wait to see the first Bonus Points of the evening being awarded!

This week, our teams had ‘Blockbusters’ (loosely modelled on the TV game show) as the topic, chosen via the ‘Wheel of Misfortune’ the previous week by “2 n Coo”.

EVERY SINGLE TEAM got at least 9 correct, with “Agatha Quiz-Tee”, “Despair Shop”, “Hoddit & Doddit”, “Quizteama Aguilera”, “Simple Minds”, “Tequila Mockingbird”, “The Twits” and newcomers “Lettuce Remain Friends” ALL scoring 10 points with their Jokers PLUS 2 Bonus Points each!

But it was “Quizzee Rascals” who were the ‘top bananas’ for Round Two, with a maximum score of 20 points with their Joker, plus 2 Bonus Points on top!

Round Three - Multiple Choice General Knowledge

There were NO Joker cards played in Round 3, and the joint-top scorers this time were “Agatha Quiz-Tee”, “Hoddit & Doddit” and “One For Yersel'” on 8 points apiece.

Round Four - Picture Round : 'Name the Film or TV Series'

For the Picture Round this week, we presented our teams with cartoonised images of ten iconic vehicles from equally iconic films and TV series.

Again, and is so often the case, multiple Jokers were played in this round, with ELEVEN teams opting to play their Jokers for the Picture Round.

As with Round Two, no team got any less than nine answers correct! “The Bridies” got all ten correct to bag their first 2 Bonus Points of the night.

“Agatha Quiz-Tee”, “One For Yersel'”, “Quizteama Aguilera”, “Tequila Mockingbird”, “The Giggle Gang” and “Lettuce Remain Friends” ALL got full marks with their Jokers, earning them an additional 2 Bonus Points as well!

Round Five - Themed Round : 'True Or False?'

For the Themed Round this week, our teams faced ten statements, and had to decide whether they were true, or false.

“Agatha Quiz-Tee” impressively got all ten answers correct to win another 2 Bonus Points as well.

Round Six - Total Wipeout Round : £90 Snowball Cash Jackpot

Our updated incentive for ‘Total Wipeout’ means that as well as winning up to £100 in cash, any team who gets 10 answers correct on ‘Total Wipeout’ will now get their Bonus Points for the evening DOUBLED!

Plus they get 10 points towards their score for the evening!

Of course, if they haven’t got any Bonus Points, unfortunately there is nothing to double!

This week, the Snowball Jackpot stood at a nice £90 – but with TEN teams scoring zero points, and no team scoring higher than 4 points, the Jackpot next week will be the MAXIMUM £100!

Round Seven - 'Guess Who?'

In the final round, EVERY team who gets the ‘Guess Who?’ mystery celebrity answer correct on the FIRST CLUE will receive 10 Bonus Points towards their total for ‘Team of the Month’ which should make things REALLY interesting at the end of the month!

But would any of the teams manage it this week?

In fact, only “Hoddit & Doddit” guessed that TV funnyman Jimmy Carr was our Mystery Guest on the first clue this week, meaning that they won the £20 cash prize unchallenged!

It also meant that they were awarded 10 Bonus Points towards their ‘Team of the Month’ score for October!

Another exciting Quiz saw “Agatha Quiz-Tee” finish on top with a score of 80 points to win this weeks £25 Hugo’s Gift Voucher.

Our runners-up “Hoddit & Doddit” on 77 points were rewarded with a big tub of sweets and third-placed “Tequila Mockingbird” (73 points) got their hands on a bag of sweets too!

Having finished rock-bottom this week, “Despair Shop” were left with the dubious honour of spinning the ‘Wheel of Misfortune’ to choose next week’s ‘Word Puzzle Round’ topic.

And for the second successive week, the wheel landed on number 10 meaning that ‘Blockbusters’ would be the topic for Round Two next week!

Team of the Month

10 points are awarded towards your ‘Team of the Month’ score for every week that your team takes part.

In addition, the team with the Highest Average Score in the month gets a further 10 points, with second-highest getting 9 points, and so on.

The same scoring is in place for the Highest Cumulative Monthly Score, the Highest Weekly Score and the Highest Cumulative Bonus Points.

We will also give teams an additional 10 points for each time they get the ‘Guess Who?’ answer correct on the first clue.

Our ‘Team of the Month’ will be the team with the most points after all of this, and wins £50, with second-place getting £25 and third-place receiving £10!
