The Thursday Pub Quiz at Hugo’s – (15/10/2026)

The third October weekly Thursday Pub Quiz nights at Hugo’s Bar & Pavilion in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support saw an incredible SIXTY-SEVEN quizzers taking part!

This week, we welcomed SEVENTEEN teams to the Quiz, including our newest team – “Chafing The Dream”.

Round One - Starter For Ten

Again, none of the teams played their Joker in the first round, but the scoring for ‘Starter for Ten’ was still pretty decent.

Despite there being no perfect scores to start the night, we saw “Agatha Quiztee”, “Craig & Mike”, and “The Bridies” start strongest with 9/10 each to share the early lead.

Round Two - Word Puzzle Round : 'Cockney Rhyming Slang'

The second round was INCREDIBLE with EVERY team getting all 10 answers correct!

The topic for the Word Puzzle Round had been chosen by “2 n Coo” via the ‘Wheel of Misfortune’ last week, and was ‘Cockney Rhyming Slang’.

Every single team ended up getting 2 Bonus Points each, with “Craig & Mike”, “Radar Love”, and “Chafing The Dream” ALL having played their Joker to earn 2 Bonus Points each!

Round Three - Multiple Choice General Knowledge

Only 1 Joker card was played in round 3, and there were no Bonus Points awarded, with “Hoddit & Doddit” our top-scorers on 14 points.

Round Four - Picture Round : 'Famous Toms'

The Picture Round this week saw our teams faced with picture of ten famous ‘Toms” and simply had to name them!

Despite “The Wotsits” and “Chafing The Dream” getting all ten correct to earn another 2 Bonus Points, there were EIGHT teams – “Bonnie & Clyde”, “Drinking Team 2.0”, “Dunderheids”, “One For Yersel'”, “Quizteama Aguilera”, “The Also-Rans”, “The Bridies”, “Universally Challenged” AND “Chafing The Dream” – who scored full marks with their Joker cards.

Round Five - Themed Round : 'Song Lyrics - Missing Female Names'

For the Themed Round this week, our teams had to work out the missing female names from well-known song lyrics.

There were no perfect scores in this round, but “The Wotsits” did a great job with their Joker, scoring 18 points to win the round.

Round Six - Total Wipeout Round : £10 Snowball Cash Jackpot

Our updated incentive for ‘Total Wipeout’ means that as well as winning up to £100 in cash, any team who gets 10 answers correct on ‘Total Wipeout’ will now get their Bonus Points for the evening DOUBLED!

Plus they get 10 points towards their score for the evening!

Of course, if they haven’t got any Bonus Points, unfortunately there is nothing to double!

This week, the Snowball Jackpot had reverted to £10 – but despite SIX teams scoring zero points, we DID have a winner this week, with “Radar Love” getting all ten answers to win the £10 AND double their Bonus Points for the evening!

So once again, the Jackpot next week is £10!

Round Seven - 'Guess Who?'

In the final round, EVERY team who gets the ‘Guess Who?’ mystery celebrity answer correct on the FIRST CLUE will receive 10 Bonus Points towards their total for ‘Team of the Month’ which should make things REALLY interesting at the end of the month!

But would any of the teams manage it this week?

In fact, NINE teams correctly guessed that golf superstar Rory McIlroy was our mystery celebrity on the first clue this week, giving them all twenty points for the week AND ten bonus points for ‘Team of the Month’

“Quizteama Aguilera” were drawn out to win the £20 cash prize for the round so congratulations to them (although two of the four ladies in the team agreed to getting their photo taken, so maybe the winnings are only getting split two ways instead of four?)

Tie-Break Time!

We needed a tie-break to separate “The Bridies” from “Craig & Mike”, both having finished on 79 points.

Both teams were asked to guess the height of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa to the nearest foot.

Both teams went either side of the correct answer with “The Bridies” going for 4,000 feet (1,284 over the correct answer of 2,716 feet).

“Craig & Mike” had guessed 1,380 feet which was short by 1,336 feet meaning that “The Bridies” were 52 feet closer, and won the bag of Fruit Pastilles for their efforts!

How The Teams Finished...

With all of that excitement dealt with, “Universally Challenged” were our runners-up this week on 80 points to get their hands on a tub of “Heroes”.

Winners this week were “Radar Love” on 83 points to win this weeks £25 Hugo’s Gift Voucher.

Having finished bottom this week, “The Giggle Gang” spun the ‘Wheel of Misfortune’ to see what the theme would be for the Word Puzzle Round next week – and they landed on number 1, meaning that ‘Wordsearch’ will be the theme for the Quiz next week!

Team of the Month

10 points are awarded towards your ‘Team of the Month’ score for every week that your team takes part.

In addition, the team with the Highest Average Score in the month gets a further 10 points, with second-highest getting 9 points, and so on.

The same scoring is in place for the Highest Cumulative Monthly Score, the Highest Weekly Score and the Highest Cumulative Bonus Points.

We will also give teams an additional 10 points for each time they get the ‘Guess Who?’ answer correct on the first clue.

Our ‘Team of the Month’ will be the team with the most points after all of this, and wins £50, with second-place getting £25 and third-place receiving £10!
