The Thursday Pub Quiz at Hugo’s – August 2026 (Week #1) – (06/08/2026)

The first-ever Thursday Pub Quiz at Hugo’s Bar & Pavilion in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support was another really busy night.

This week, we welcomed TWENTY-SEVEN teams, with over ONE-HUNDRED quizzers taking part!

It was an INCREDIBLE turn-out for our first Quiz in our new home, including new teams “USA”, “Chartye”, “Young at Heart”, “Drinking Team 2.0”, “Quizzy McQuizzface” and “People Watching”.

Hugo's Pavilion, Dalgety Bay

Round One - Starter For Ten

The opening round was fairly high-scoring, with the majority of our teams scoring at least 8 points.

“Caledonian MacBrains”, “Despair Shop” and “Seal Pointers” all played their Joker cards. and it was “Caledonian MacBrains” who took the early lead, scoring 18 points.

Round Two - Word Puzzle Round : 'Dingbats'

As always, ‘Dingbats’ seems to be a popular feature in the Word Puzzle Round for our teams.

This week was no exception, with TWENTY teams getting full marks, to earn 2 Bonus Points each!

“Balds & Blondes”, “Caledonian MacBrains”, “Despair Shop”, “Simple Minds”, “The Wotsits” and “Young at Heart” ALL scored 10/10 to earn get their first 2 Bonus Points of the evening.

But FOURTEEN of our teams – “ACE”, “Agatha Quiz-Tee”, “Dunderheids”, “Hoddit & Doddit”, “One For Yersel'”, “Quizteam Aguilera”, “Tequila Mockingbird”, “The Bridies”, “The Clan”, “The Giggle Gang”, “The Last Place Legends”, “The Stoaters”, “Universally Challenged” and “Quizzy McQuizzface” – ALL scored the maximum 22 points thanks to their Joker cards!

Round Three - Multiple Choice General Knowledge

NONE of the teams chose to play Joker cards in Round 3, and so the scoring for ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’ was a bit more modest, with no perfect scores either.

“Caledonian MacBrains” were the top-scorers in this round with 9 points.

Round Four - Picture Round : 'Name the Celebrity Caricature Characters'

This was another popular (and high-scoring) round this week, with EVERY team bar one, getting at least 8 answers correct.

In fact, we had FIFTEEN teams getting 10/10, adding 2 Bonus Points to their overall scores for the evening so far.

But three of our new teams “USA”, “Young At Heart” and “People Watching” ALL got perfect scores with their Jokers to get the maximum 22 points for the round.

Round Five - Music Round : 'All About The Fives'

Our Themed Round this week was music again.  This time, our teams heard ten tracks, and had to guess which year the track had been released – their clue was that the year had to end in ‘5’ and be between 1965 and 2025.

Simple!

ELEVEN of the teams got all 10 of the answers correct to earn 2 more Bonus Points – “Simple Minds” were the best of the bunch, being the final team to play their Joker card, and scoring the maximum 22 points as their reward!

A packed-out Pavilion at Hugo's for the Quiz!

Round Six - Total Wipeout Round : £10 Snowball Cash Jackpot

Our updated incentive for ‘Total Wipeout’ means that as well as winning up to £100 in cash, any team who gets 10 answers correct on ‘Total Wipeout’ will now get their Bonus Points for the evening DOUBLED!

Plus they get 10 points towards their score for the evening!

Of course, if they haven’t got any Bonus Points, unfortunately there is nothing to double!

This week, the Snowball Jackpot stood at £10 – but with THIRTEEN teams scoring zero points, and no team scoring higher than 3 points, the Jackpot next week will be £20!

Round Seven - 'Guess Who?'

In the final round, EVERY team who gets the ‘Guess Who?’ mystery celebrity answer correct on the FIRST CLUE will receive 10 Bonus Points towards their total for ‘Team of the Month’ which should make things REALLY interesting at the end of the month!

But would any of the teams manage it this week?

NONE of the teams managed to ‘Guess Who?’ the mystery celebrity was on any of the first THREE clues this week!

Then, SEVENTEEN teams all correctly guessed that TV cookery star Nigella Lawson was the mystery celebrity this week.

“Balds & Blondes” were drawn out to win the £20 cash prize for the round, which they very generously donated back to Macmillan Cancer Support, so a MASSIVE thanks to them!

Tie-Break!

Less than TEN POINTS separated our top FIFTEEN teams this week – an incredibly close fought quiz!

And we needed a tie-break  question to split our top two, “The Bridies” and “Caledonian MacBrains” – both tied on 79 points – to decide who would win the £25 Hugo’s Gift Voucher.

“The Bridies” won the tie-break and with it the Gift Voucher for this week!

“The Clan” finished in third place this week on 76 points.
