The Thursday Pub Quiz at Hugo’s – (17/09/2026)

The third September weekly Thursday Pub Quiz nights at Hugo’s Bar & Pavilion in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support saw an fantastic EIGHTY quizzers taking part!

This week, we welcomed TWENTY-THREE teams to the Quiz, including EIGHT new teams – “My Name Is Jeff”, “We Are Goosed”, “Nickaye”, “Radar Love”, “Yorkshire Tea”, “Booze-treavie United”, “The Wafty Crankers” and “Only Here For The Prosecco”.

Round One - Starter For Ten

Again, none of the teams played their Joker in the first round, but the scoring for ‘Starter for Ten’ was still fairly high.

Despite there being no perfect scores to start the night, we saw “Craig & Mike”, “Quizteama Aguilera”, “The Wotsits” and “Universally Challenged” start strongest with 9/10 each to share the early lead.

Round Two - Word Puzzle Round : 'Inconsonants - Fife Towns & Villages'

We didn’t have long to wait to see the first Bonus Points of the evening being awarded!

This week, our teams had to work out the names of ten Fife towns and villages, where all of the consonants had been removed from the clues, and only vowels remained.

TWELVE of our teams had played their Joker cards – “Quizteama Aguilera” and “The Bridies” both scoring full marks to get the maximum 22 points for the round.

Newcomers “Radar Love” scored 10/10 meaning that they got their first 2 Bonus Points as well.

Round Three - Multiple Choice General Knowledge

Despite 7 Joker cards being played in round 3, there were no Bonus Points awarded, with “Radar Love” and “Yorkshire Tea” our top-scorers on 14 points each.

Round Four - Picture Round : 'World Statues'

The Picture Round this week saw our teams faced with ten famous statues from around the world.

Despite “The Bridies” getting all ten correct to earn another 2 Bonus Points, it was “The Wotsits” who won the round on 18 points, having played their Joker card.

Round Five - Themed Round : 'September So Far'

For the Themed Round this week, our teams faced questions on things that had been in the news so far this month.

“Agatha Quiz-Tee” impressively got all ten answers correct to win 2 Bonus Points as well, but new boys “Booze-treavie United” had held on to their Joker card until this round, and bagged 16 points.

Round Six - Total Wipeout Round : £70 Snowball Cash Jackpot

Our updated incentive for ‘Total Wipeout’ means that as well as winning up to £100 in cash, any team who gets 10 answers correct on ‘Total Wipeout’ will now get their Bonus Points for the evening DOUBLED!

Plus they get 10 points towards their score for the evening!

Of course, if they haven’t got any Bonus Points, unfortunately there is nothing to double!

This week, the Snowball Jackpot stood at a cool £70 – but with THIRTEEN teams scoring zero points, and no team scoring higher than 5 points, the Jackpot next week will be an AMAZING £80!

Round Seven - 'Guess Who?'

In the final round, EVERY team who gets the ‘Guess Who?’ mystery celebrity answer correct on the FIRST CLUE will receive 10 Bonus Points towards their total for ‘Team of the Month’ which should make things REALLY interesting at the end of the month!

But would any of the teams manage it this week?

In fact, FIVE teams correctly guessed that TV cookery icon Dame Mary Berrywas our mystery celebrity on the first clue this week, giving them all twenty points for the week AND ten bonus points for ‘Team of the Month’

“We’re Still Thinking” were drawn out to win the £20 cash prize for the round so congratulations to them!

Another exciting Quiz saw “The Bridies” run out on top with a score of 78 points to win this weeks £25 Hugo’s Gift Voucher.

Our runners-up “Quizteama Aguilera” on 76 points were rewarded with a big tub of sweets and third-placed “Agatha Quiz-Tee” (73 points) got their hands on a bag of Cadburys Snack-Size chocolate bars!

Having finished rock-bottom for the second week in a row, “2 n’ Coo” once again had the dubious honour of spinning the ‘Wheel of Misfortune’ to see what the theme would be for the Word Puzzle Round next week – and this they landed on number 5, meaning that ‘Homophones’ (words that sound the same but have different meanings) will be the theme for the final Quiz of the month!

A huge thanks to all of the teams who have taken part so far this month – 39 in total!

In addition, the team with the Highest Average Score in the month gets a further 10 points, with second-highest getting 9 points, and so on.

The same scoring is in place for the Highest Cumulative Monthly Score, the Highest Weekly Score and the Highest Cumulative Bonus Points.

We will also give teams an additional 10 points for each time they get the ‘Guess Who?’ answer correct on the first clue.

Our ‘Team of the Month’ will be the team with the most points after all of this, and wins £50, with second-place getting £25 and third-place receiving £10!

“The Bridies” are in pole position with 1 week to go, but can they hold off the other teams this month to with the £50 prize?
