The Thursday Pub Quiz at Hugo’s – (22/10/2026)

The penultimate weekly Thursday Pub Quiz nights at Hugo’s Bar & Pavilion in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support saw over SIXTY quizzers taking part!

This week, we welcomed SIXTEEN teams to the Quiz, including “The Hugo Spritzers” – the FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTIETH team to have taken part in the Quiz since it began!

JOOSE was back hosting the Quiz again this week, but who would our winning team be?

Hugo's Pavilion, Dalgety Bay

Round One - Starter For Ten

Again, none of the teams played their Joker in the first round, and the scoring for ‘Starter for Ten’ was fairly ‘middle-of-the-road’ with an average score of less than 6 for our teams combined.

However, “Quizteama Aguilera” got their noses in front, winning the round with a good score of 8 points!

Round Two - Word Puzzle Round : 'Wordsearch'

The topic for the Word Puzzle Round this week was ‘Wordsearch’, which had been chosen via the ‘Wheel of Misfortune’ by last weeks bottom team, “The Giggle Gang”

It turned out to be an incredibly high-scoring round, with only two of our teams failing to get full marks (and they both got nine out of the ten answers correct).

So FOURTEEN teams got their first 2 Bonus Points of the night -with “Agatha Quiztee”, “Bonnie & Clyde”, “Caledonian MacBrains”, “Dunderheids”, “Hoddit & Doddit”, “Quizteama Aguilera”, “Radar Love”, “Simple Minds”, “Tequila Mockingbird”, “The Twits”, “Universally Challenged” and “We’re Still Thinking” ALL scoring 20 points with their Joker cards!

Round Three - Multiple Choice General Knowledge

There were no Joker cards played in Round 3 for ‘Multiple Choice General Knowledge’ and despite their being no perfect scores, “Agatha Quiztee” were the best of the bunch with 9/10.

Round Four - Picture Round : 'TV Puppets'

The Picture Round this week saw our teams faced with ten famous puppets from TV programmes – all they had to do was name the puppets!

EIGHT teams guessed all ten correctly to earn 2 Bonus Points, but “One For Yersel'” and newcomers “The Hugo Spritzers” were joint-top scorers having played their Jokers scoring a maximum 22 points each.

Round Five - Themed Round : 'Name The Nation'

For the Themed Round this week, our teams were asked to name the ten sovereign states from around the world, which only have four letters in their English name.

And without any clues to help them, this could have been quite a challenge.

Our teams did pretty well though, with half of them scoring 9 points or more.  And of them, “Agatha Quiztee” and “Radar Love” both got 10/10 to earn 2 more Bonus Points each.

A packed-out Pavilion at Hugo's for the Quiz!

Round Six - Total Wipeout Round : £10 Snowball Cash Jackpot

Our updated incentive for ‘Total Wipeout’ means that as well as winning up to £100 in cash, any team who gets 10 answers correct on ‘Total Wipeout’ will now get their Bonus Points for the evening DOUBLED!

Plus they get 10 points towards their score for the evening!

Of course, if they haven’t got any Bonus Points, unfortunately there is nothing to double!

With “Radar Love” having got 10/10 last week, the Snowball Jackpot stood at £10 for the second week in a row – but with NINE teams scoring zero points, and no team scoring higher than 7 points, the Jackpot next week will be an FANG-TASTIC £20 (see the wee Hallowe’en pun there?)!

Round Seven - 'Guess Who?'

In the final round, EVERY team who gets the ‘Guess Who?’ mystery celebrity answer correct on the FIRST CLUE will receive 10 Bonus Points towards their total for ‘Team of the Month’ which should make things REALLY interesting at the end of the month!

But would any of the teams manage it this week?

This week, THREE teams correctly guessed that comedian Michael McIntyre was our mystery celebrity on the second clue, giving them all eighteen points.

“The Hugo Spritzers” were drawn out to win the £20 cash prize for the round in their first week, so congratulations to them!

Michael McIntyre
With an impressive score of 80 points, our winners this week were “Caledonian MacBrains”, earning the £25 Hugo’s Gift Voucher.

Our bottom team this week were “Dumb & Dumber” on 50 points, so they had the important task of spinning the ‘Wheel of Misfortune’ to choose the Word Puzzle Round for next week – ‘Dingbats’ will be the topic, with a bit of a Hallowe’en twist to it!

Our final Quiz of the month will be themed mainly around Hallowe’en and if you’d like to get into the ‘spirit’ (sorry – another Hallowe’en pun), then please feel free to come along in (entirely optional) suitable fancy dress!

A MASSIVE thanks to all of the teams who have taken part so far this month – 28 in total!

How The Teams Finished...

We look forward to seeing you at Hugos again this coming Thursday from 8pm in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support for the final Quiz of October, where we will also announce our ‘Team of the Month’.

Please make sure to book your table by calling Hugos on 01383 270021.

And why not make a night of it, by choosing something from the Thursday-only “Hugo’s Quiz Bites” menu?

Team of the Month

10 points are awarded towards your ‘Team of the Month’ score for every week that your team takes part.

In addition, the team with the Highest Average Score in the month gets a further 10 points, with second-highest getting 9 points, and so on.

The same scoring is in place for the Highest Cumulative Monthly Score, the Highest Weekly Score and the Highest Cumulative Bonus Points.

We will also give teams an additional 10 points for each time they get the ‘Guess Who?’ answer correct on the first clue.

Our ‘Team of the Month’ will be the team with the most points after all of this, and wins £50, with second-place getting £25 and third-place receiving £10!
