Week #193 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (02/07/2026)

The first July Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support was another REALLY busy night.

We were delighted to welcome an incredible TWENTY ONE teams along for the Quiz, with over NINETY people taking part this week.

That’s FOUR HUNDRED teams who have taken part since the Quiz began in October 2022.

Who would be our ‘Team of the Week’, this week?

Round One : Starter For Ten

The opening round was a fairly high-scoring one.

Although none of the teams managed to get full-marks in this round, our joint top-scorers were “Caledonian MacBrains” and “Quizzardry” who shared the lead on 18 points each, , both having played their Joker straight away.

Round Two : Word Puzzle Round ('Inconsonants - American Presidents')

The Word Puzzle Round was an incredibly high scoring round, with SIXTEEN of the teams on full marks, and four of the other teams only getting one answer wrong!

This week, we recognised the forthcoming Independence Day in the USA, with the topic being ‘American Presidents’.

ELEVEN of the teams who got full marks had also played their Jokers, to score a maximum 22 points including their first 2 Bonus Points of the evening!

Round Three : Multiple Choice General Knowledge

Despite the high-scoring of the previous round, none of the teams managed to record any perfect scores in the ‘Multiple Choice’ round.

There were no Jokers played in this round either, so it was left with nine of our teams scoring 9 points as top-scorers in the round.

Round Four : Picture Round - 'Siblings? Or Not?'

For the Picture Round, we presented our teams with ten clues, each containing two famous faces.

The task for the teams was simply to identify which of the pictured pairings were siblings, and which were not.

Again, the scoring was pretty good for this one, with FIVE of our teams getting perfect scores, but “Simple Minds” and “The Wotsits” were our top scorers on a maximum 22 points thanks to their Jokers!

Round Five : Themed Round - 'Wimbledon'

With the Wimbledon tennis championships well under way, this weeks Themed Round focused on that topic.

And it was “One Bird, Two Stones” who cam out on top in this round, with the only team with a Joke to play, scoring 18 points as a result!

Round Six - 'Total Wipeout Round' (£40 Snowball Cash Jackpot)

Our updated incentive for ‘Total Wipeout’ means that as well as winning up to £100 in cash, any team who gets 10 answers correct on ‘Total Wipeout’ will now get their Bonus Points for the evening DOUBLED!

Plus they get 10 points towards their score for the evening!

Of course, if they haven’t got any Bonus Points, unfortunately there is nothing to double!

And this week, the Snowball Jackpot stood at £40 – but with NINE teams scoring zero points, and no team scoring higher than 8 points, there were no winners again, so next weeks Snowball Jackpot will be £50!

Round Seven – ”Guess Who?’ Round’

EVERY team who gets the ‘Guess Who?’ mystery celebrity answer correct on the FIRST CLUE will receive 10 Bonus Points towards their total for ‘Team of the Month’ which should make things REALLY interesting at the end of the month!

But would any of the teams manage it this week?

As it turned out, TEN teams correctly guessed that actor Sean Bean was this week’s ‘Guess Who?’ mystery celebrity on this first clue.

“We’re Still Thinking” were first of the teams drawn out, and so they pocketed the £20 cash prize, along with 20 points AND those extra 10 points towards their ‘Team of the Month’ score.

ALL of the other teams that guessed correctly on the first clue also earned 10 points towards their ‘Team of the Month’ score to get July off to a flyer!
