Week #195 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (16/07/2026)

The third Thursday Pub Quiz of July at The Compass in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support was another really busy night.

We had EIGHTEEN teams and over EIGHTY quizzers taking part this week!

Our newest team “E For Idiots” joined this week, meaning that an incredible 402 teams have taken part since the Quiz began in October 2022.

Who would be our ‘Team of the Week’, this week?

The Compass, Harbour Drive, Dalgety Bay

Round One - Starter For Ten

Despite no Jokers being played in the opening round this week, we still saw some pretty impressive scoring.

In fact, “Agatha Quiz-Tee”, “Craig & Mike”, “Hoddit & Doddit”, “The Wotsits” AND “E For Idiots” ALL scored 10/10 to claim 2 Bonus Points each in the ‘Starter For Ten’ round!

Round Two - Word Puzzle Round : 'Anagrams' (Songs By ABBA)

Given the topic for the anagrams in our Word Puzzle Round this week (‘Songs by ABBA’), it was perhaps unsurprising that FIFTEEN of our teams chose to play their Jokers in this round.

Unfortunately, the hopes were dashed for many of the teams with EIGHT of the teams still only managing single-digit scores despite playing their Jokers.

In fact there were NO perfect scores at all in this round this week, with “Hoddit & Doddit” top-scoring on 16 points to cement their position in top spot after two rounds.

Round Three - Multiple Choice General Knowledge

The scoring for the Multiple General Knowledge round improved slightly from the previous round overall.

As the only team to play a Joker in this round, “E For Idiots” won this round on 12 points.

No perfect scores for the second consecutive round!

Round Four - Picture Round : 'Name the Game'

For the Picture Round this week, the theme was ‘Name The Game’.

The teams were shown pictures of ten balls associated with sports and simply had to name that sport.

This proved to be a real ‘shot in the arm’ for our teams, with EVERY TEAM scoring full marks to get 2 Bonus Points each!

And “Quizteam Aguilera” and “Universally Challenged” had both played their Joker cards to get the maximum 22 points each in this round.

Round Five - Themed Round : 'True or False?'

For the Themed Round this week, our teams were given ten statements, and had to work out if they were either true, or false.

This seemed to stump quite a few of our teams, but “The Giggle Gang” got 10/10 (their second consecutive perfect score of the evening) to take their Bonus Points tally to 4 for the night.

Round Six - Total Wipeout Round : £60 Snowball Cash Jackpot

Our updated incentive for ‘Total Wipeout’ means that as well as winning up to £100 in cash, any team who gets 10 answers correct on ‘Total Wipeout’ will now get their Bonus Points for the evening DOUBLED!

Plus they get 10 points towards their score for the evening!

Of course, if they haven’t got any Bonus Points, unfortunately there is nothing to double!

And this week, the Snowball Jackpot stood at £60 – but with NINE teams scoring zero points, and “Craig & Mike” top-scoring on 8 points, the Jackpot next week will be £70!

Round Seven - 'Guess Who?'

We’ve also increased the incentive in the final round too.

EVERY team who gets the ‘Guess Who?’ mystery celebrity answer correct on the FIRST CLUE will receive 10 Bonus Points towards their total for ‘Team of the Month’ which should make things REALLY interesting at the end of the month!

But would any of the teams manage it this week?

“Universally Challenged” were the ONLY team to correctly guess that ex-footballer and TV personality Jamie Redknapp was this week’s ‘Guess Who?’ mystery celebrity on the first clue.

And so they pocketed the £20 cash prize, along with 20 points AND those extra 10 points towards their ‘Team of the Month’ score!

This week's 'Guess Who?' mystery celeb - Jamie Redknapp

A Gripping Finale!

It was a much lower-scoring Quiz than in previous weeks, and “Craig & Mike” managed to snatch first place this week from “Hoddit & Doddit” who had lead for the first 5 rounds!

And so they won the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card this week.

“Universally Challenged” leapt into second place, thanks to their first-clue answer in the final round!
“Bonnie & Clyde” were just one point behind in third place.

How The Teams Finished...
