Week #192 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (25/06/2026)

June’s final Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support was another really busy night.

On a very sticky night, we were delighted to see TWENTY teams coming along for the Quiz, with over NINETY people taking part.

And with our newest teams “We Thought It Was Bingo!” and “Charlie’s Angels” joining us, we reached the magical FOUR HUNDRED teams who have taken part since the Quiz began in October 2022.

As it was the final week of the month, we waited to see who our ‘Team of the Week’ would be – could “The Bridies” make it a ‘full house’ of wins for the month?

And who would be crowned our ‘Team of the Month’ for June?

Round One – Starter For Ten

The opening round saw “Caledonian MacBrains” and “One For Yersel'” share an early read, with both teams scoring 9/10 – no teams having played their Joker cards.

Round Two – Word Puzzle Round (IATA Airport Codes – ‘Name The Country’)

The Word Puzzle Round this week saw our teams presented with 10 IATA international airport codes (such as ‘GLA’ for Glasgow) – their task wasto name the COUNTRY that the airport’s code related to.

This prompted SEVEN of our teams to play their Joker cards, and “Agatha Quiz-Tee” and “Caledonian MacBrains” BOTH scored full marks to get the maximum 22 points each (including their 2 Bonus Points”.

Round Three – Multiple Choice General Knowledge

Nobody felt encouraged to play their Joker card in round 3, and this time it was “The Wotsits” who top-scored with 9/10 answers correct.

Round Four – Picture Round (‘Name The Car Manufacturer’)

This week’s Picture Round saw our teams presented with the logos of ten car manufacturers.

Again, there were LOADS of Jokers played for this round, but it was “Dunderheids” and newcomers “Charlie’s Angels” who top-scored with a maximum 22 points thanks to perfect scores AND their Jokers!

Round Five – Themed Round: ‘The 1% Club’

The fifth round this week saw another little change – our Themed Round was (loosely) based upon the TV game show ‘The 1% Club’.

And our teams seemed to relish the challenge with FIFTEEN of the teams scoring 10/10 to earn an additional 2 Bonus Points towards their score for the evening!

Round Six – ‘Total Wipeout Round’ (£30 Snowball Cash Jackpot)

Our updated incentive for ‘Total Wipeout’ means that as well as winning the Snowball Jackpot (anywhere up to £100 in cash), any team who gets 10 answers correct on ‘Total Wipeout’ will now get their Bonus Points for the evening DOUBLED!

Not only that, but they also get the standard 10 points towards their score for the evening!

Of course, if they haven’t got any Bonus Points, unfortunately there is nothing to double!

And this week, the Snowball Jackpot stood at £30!

But with FOURTEEN teams scoring zero points, and no team scoring higher than 6 points, the Jackpot goes up to £40 for the start of July!

Round Seven – ”Guess Who?’ Round’

“The Giggle Gang” were the ONLY team to correctly guess that actor and TV personality Danny Dyer was this week’s ‘Guess Who?’ mystery celebrity on the first clue.

So they pocketed the £20 cash prize, along with 20 points AND those extra 10 points towards their ‘Team of the Month’ score.

“Caledonian MacBrains” ran out this weeks winners, with a number of high-scoring rounds including two perfect rounds in the first 5 to earn them a total of 4 Bonus Points for the evening.

So they won their first £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card for the month of June with a final score of 81 points.

“Charlie’s Angels” finished their first Quiz with an excellent second-place finish on 76 points, with “Craig and Mike” in third, just one point behind.

And July sees FIVE Thursdays, so there are even more chances to score points towards ‘Team of the Month’, with those cash prizes of £50, £25 and £10 for our top three teams!

Having won the first 3 quizzes of the month, it was perhaps no surprise that “The Bridies” ran out as the ‘Team of the Month’ for June, winning the £50 cash prize.

Congratulations too to “The Giggle Gang” who came second, and “The Wotsits” in third-place.
