Week #194 – Thursday Quiz @ The Compass (09/07/2026)

The second Thursday Pub Quiz of July at The Compass in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support was another really busy night.

This week, we had TWENTY teams and over NINETY quizzers taking part!

We have now had 401 take part since the Quiz began in October 2022.

So who would be our ‘Team of the Week’, this week?

Round One - Starter For Ten

Unlike some previous weeks, the opening round was REALLY high-scoring, with only one team getting less than 8 points.

“Bonnie & Clyde”, “Sailor Mouth” and “The Clan” ALL scored 10/10, to earn 2 Bonus Points each.

But “Caledonian MacBrains” had played their Joker to perfection, getting all ten answers correct for a maximum 22 points to take the early lead.

Round Two - Word Puzzle Round : 'Dingbats'

As always, ‘Dingbats’ seems to be a popular feature in the Word Puzzle Round for our teams.

This week, EVERY TEAM scored at least nine points, with SEVENTEEN teams getting full marks, to earn 2 Bonus Points.

Of those, ELEVEN teams scored the maximum 22 points thanks to their Joker cards.

Round Three - Multiple Choice General Knowledge

The high-scoring of the opening two rounds fell away somewhat in the third round.

“One For Yersel'” were the winners of this round, with their second consecutive perfect score to secure another 2 Bonus Points.

Round Four - Picture Round : 'Name the Mr Men Characters'

For a wee bit of fun this week, we took (some of) the Quizzers back to their younger days, as we asked them to name ten characters from the much-loved ‘Mr Men’ series.

There were no perfect scores in this round, and so “Agatha Quiz-Tee” won the round on 18 points, thanks to their Joker.

Round Five - Music Round : 'Boys Names in the Song Title'

Round Five proved to be a real challenge for our teams this week. They were played 10 well-known pieces of music, and asked to work out what boys name was featured in the title of each track.

A few of the teams managed to get 9 correct answers, and having played their Joker, “The Clan” won this round on 18 points.

Round Six - Total Wipeout Round : £50 Snowball Cash Jackpot

Our updated incentive for ‘Total Wipeout’ means that as well as winning up to £100 in cash, any team who gets 10 answers correct on ‘Total Wipeout’ will now get their Bonus Points for the evening DOUBLED!

Plus they get 10 points towards their score for the evening!

Of course, if they haven’t got any Bonus Points, unfortunately there is nothing to double!

And this week, the Snowball Jackpot stood at £50 – but with TEN teams scoring zero points, and no team scoring higher than 5 points, the Jackpot next week will be £60!

Round Seven - 'Guess Who?'

We’ve also ‘upped the ante’ in the final round.

EVERY team who gets the ‘Guess Who?’ mystery celebrity answer correct on the FIRST CLUE will receive 10 Bonus Points towards their total for ‘Team of the Month’ which should make things REALLY interesting at the end of the month!

But would any of the teams manage it this week?

“Bonnie & Clyde”, “Caledonian MacBrains” and “Tequila Mockingbird” ALL correctly guessed that Australian actress Rebel Wilson was this week’s ‘Guess Who?’ mystery celebrity on the first clue.

“Bonnie & Clyde” were drawn out, and so they pocketed the £20 cash prize, along with 20 points AND those extra 10 points towards their ‘Team of the Month’ score, as did the other two – not a bad consolation!
